STD HERPES SYMPTOMS: IDENTIFY PROBLEMS

Some symptoms make it hard to distinguish herpes from other infections or problems in the genital area. For example, allergic reactions to soaps or spermicides can cause itching and breaks in the skin of the genital area that can mimic herpes. Genital fungal infections in men can cause red, itchy areas. Many women mistake their herpes symptoms for yeast infections, and since yeast medications are now available without a prescription, women may think they are successfully treating a yeast infection when in fact they are experiencing herpes symptoms that resolve, over time, on their own.

Women may also mistake herpes symptoms for a bladder infection. A herpes lesion that is located near or inside the urethra, or urinary opening, may cause burning during urination, which may feel like a bacterial bladder infection. Taking an antibiotic will seem to make the symptoms resolve, when what really happened was that the herpes lesion healed on its own. Some genital area and burning during urination.
